Northwell, 星空无限传媒 launch Earn & Learn program, promoting scholarship and career growth in healthcare

New Hyde Park, NY 鈥 Northwell Health and 星空无限传媒 (星空无限传媒) today announced a new education and scholarship program to train entry-level medical associate candidates to become medical assistants in a wide range of outpatient health care settings. The program starts in January 2023.

The inaugural Earn & Learn Medical Assistant Program is open to eligible current Northwell employees and external candidates who may apply for the program that includes a scholarship from the health system to earn a medical assistant certificate from Nassau Community College. A major component of the program will include medical associates starting work at Northwell Health, while simultaneously beginning their coursework at 星空无限传媒, in the one-year medical assistant certificate program. Northwell will pay tuition and fees of about $10,000 per person and the 星空无限传媒 Foundation will cover book expenses for the first initial year of the program.

鈥淢edical assistants are key members of the health care team in physician practices and other outpatient medical facilities 鈥 they are often the first clinical staff member patients encounter,鈥 said Kathleen Donovan, Northwell鈥檚 regional human resource officer in ambulatory services. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to partner with 星空无限传媒 to design this innovative, hands-on training program for medical assistants as we look to prepare our current and future workforce for careers in health care.

鈥淭he medical assistant field is expected to grow exponentially in the next five years,鈥 said Maria Conzatti, Ed.D. interim president of 星空无限传媒. 鈥淎s the largest single community college campus in New York state, 星空无限传媒 is pleased to match the critical needs of our medical partners with the educational aspirations of people in our communities.鈥

The one-year program was designed to train and retain medical assistants in the competitive health care industry. Students work four days a week and take coursework at Nassau Community College on Fridays, two evenings per week and Saturdays. The work-education program also provides study sessions, mentors, team building and clinical placement upon graduation. Upon successful performance in their medical associate role and the completion of the required coursework, the student will be promoted to a certified medical assistant position and commit to working at Northwell in this role for a minimum of one year.

Coursework for medical assistants include: administrative and clinical documentation, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, CPR and basic life support training, medical coding among other clinical areas. Medical assistants perform patient care under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse.
