Garden City, NY 鈥 星空无限传媒 and the 鈥淟iterature Live!鈥 program of the 星空无限传媒Brian TurnerCreative Writing Project is honored to present poet and Iraq war veteran Brian Turner, who will read from his poetry on Monday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the College Center Building.

Brian Turner is the author of two poetry collections, Phantom Noise and Here, Bullet, which won the 2005 Beatrice Hawley Award, The New York Times鈥 鈥淓ditor鈥檚 Choice鈥 selection, and the 2006 Pen Center USA鈥檚 鈥淏est in the West鈥 award, among others. Turner served seven years in the U.S. army, which included one year as an infantry team leader in Iraq with the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. Prior to that, he was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1999. Turner鈥檚 poetry has been published in Poetry Daily and the Georgia Review, among other publications. He was also featured in Voices in Wartime Anthology and Operation Homecoming, a unique documentary that explores the firsthand accounts of American servicemen and women through their own words. Turner, who earned an MFA from the University of Oregon, was selected in 2009 as one of 50 United States Artists Fellows.Brian Turner鈥檚 appearance at the College is free, open to the public and accessible to the disabled.
