星空无限传媒 Student Presents at National Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students: Presentation Was Part of the Bridges to Baccalaureate Program
Garden City, NY 鈥 星空无限传媒 student Osatohanmwen Irowa, a resident of Hempstead, recently presented a poster about her project at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), held November 14-17 in Indianapolis. During the conference, more than 2,000 students from over 350 colleges and universities participated in poster and oral presentations in 12 STEM disciplines.
Irowa, 18, is a second year biology major at 星空无限传媒 and an Honors student, as well as a member of the chemistry club. She graduated from Hempstead High School a year early, and last summer she participated in the prestigious Bridges to Baccalaureate program, which provides support to institutions to help students make transitions at a critical stage in their development as scientists; namely, the transition from a community college to a four-year baccalaureate program. Irowa plans to pursue a career in medicine.
Irowa completed a project on the ecology of two river systems in Westchester County. However, 鈥淚t wasn鈥檛 only about presenting,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 was so impressed and inspired by the other students there, as well as the advisors. I would definitely recommend this program to other students,鈥 she said. Her older sister, currently a senior at Stony Brook, also participated in Bridges to Baccalaureate and the ABRCMS.
